The United Nations Geneva Office soon will have traditional Georgian qvevri to decorate its interior to mark the 70th anniversary of the UN foundation. The Georgian Government will present the UN Geneva office with a qvevri, which is included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.
The official ceremony of placing qvevri in the inner courtyard of the Geneva UN Office will be held on 1 March 2016. The Georgian Foreign Minister and the Director General of the Geneva UN Office will address the attending audience. A memorial plaque will be unveiled as part of the event. A documentary will be demonstrated about the Georgia winemaking and Georgian wines will be tasted.
Life-size clay qvevri will be placed in the inner courtyard of the Geneva UN Office. It was made in the Georgian village of Makatubani and contains Georgian and English inscriptions – Georgia – საქართველო.The event is organized by the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the National Wine Agency and the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
