✅ On April 17, 2024, the first bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Rwanda were held in Kigali. The consultations were chaired by Zurab Aleksidze, Director of the Department of the Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and by Clementina Mukeka, Deputy Minister, Permanent Secretary, from the Rwandan side.
✅ The meeting was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to the Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Gia Macharadze, and the Second Secretary of the Department of the Middle East and Africa, Mariam Osepaishvili, from the Georgian side.
✅ At the consultations, the parties discussed current issues on the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Rwanda.
✅ The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda confirmed its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
✅ Within the framework of the political consultations, a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations was signed between the Foreign Ministries of Georgia and the Republic of Rwanda, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Diplomatic Training.
✅ On the same day, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was received by the Minister of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Rwanda, Jean Chrysostom Ngabitsinze.
✅ The conversation touched upon the need to take the necessary measures to deepen trade relations between the two countries, the prospects for fully utilizing the export-import potential.
✅ Within the framework of the visit, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the Deputy Executive Director of the Rwandan Businessmen Federation, Faustin Karasira, where the possibilities of cooperation between interested organizations of the two countries were discussed.
✅ At the end of the visit, the Ministry's delegation visited the Museum of Victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, paid tribute to the memory of up to a million people who died as a result of the genocide, and laid a wreath at the Genocide Memorial.
